Both science and religious scriptures claim that water is the element of nature from which the first life was formed on earth. The transformation of the earth from inorganic to organic depended invariably on water. From water emerged life in microscopic form first. Then evolution brought life of animals and human beings to the present state. Such an important element which is the mixture of hydrogen and oxygen is being polluted everyday. Many polluting agents are responsible for water pollution. Insecticides and fertilizers used by our farmers are the first pollutants. Since our country is not industrially developed so the first pollution comes from the farmers. Then comes the industries. The industries throw their wastes in rivers and canals.

These industrial wastes pollute water, making it unusable. Three rivers around Dhaka city, Turag. Buriganga and Shitalakhya are flowing with strinky poisonous water. Water of these rivers are no more drinkable even after purification. Fishes are dying. Men bathing in these rivers are becoming the victim of incurable skin diseases. Other pollutants like polybags, human wastes through sewerages and water vessels are also responsible for water pollution. People of the water pollution affected countries must raise their voices to check water pollution. The sooner they come forward with raised voices, the better it is for survival.
